Prof. Dr. Yalçın Karakoca

I was born on February 8, 1967, in Ankara. In 1984, I graduated from Ankara High School and entered Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. I graduated in 1992. I began my professional career as a research assistant at the Department of Pulmonary Diseases, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. During my specialization, I received Therapeutic Bronchoscopy training related to lung cancer at Dortmund Hemer Lungen Klinik in Germany and Cancer Laser Center in Marseille, France. I completed my specialization in pulmonary diseases in 1996 and became an Associate Professor of Pulmonary Diseases in 1998. In 1999, together with my mentor Prof. İzzettin Barış, I established Turkey's first interventional Bronchoscopy Center, supported by the Kocaeli Municipality.

Follow-up Outcomes of COPD Patients Who Underwent Dilatation and Curettage With the Karakoca Resector Balloon: A 188-case Series Over 5 Years

A 188-patient series (GOLD stage III–IV) accrued over a five-year period. Measurements were taken before the procedure and at 1 week and 1 month afterwards; significant improvements in FEV1, dyspnea (Borg) score and SpO₂ were reported (P<0.001).
